Itís a matter of great pleasure and immense satisfaction to note that as a genuine reflection of its academic excellence, by courtesy, sincerity and devotion of the students, research scholars and teachers in one hand and first-rated facilities as well as infrastructural back-up on the other, the College of Fisheries has by now emerged as one of the top most Fisheries College in the country. Since last couple of years, the performance of the students of this college has been outstanding in the JRF Examination, conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. But rather than remaining contended, such accomplishments keep the entire college fraternity motivated in bringing more laurels to the Central Agricultural University (Imphal) in the times to come through sincerity and hard work of faculty members, students and other staff members. Alongside, with the mission to remain associated with the character building of the students so as to groom them as worthy citizen, despite discharging of its academic vis-a-vis research and extension responsibilities, the college is also diligently keeps the students involved in various co-curricular activities in a regular manner.
The research efforts of the faculty has steadfastly been catering to the diverse needs of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and allied fields including value addition, value chain analysis and socio-economic aspects of the NE farmers. The research efforts are primarily focused to develop and/or improve technology and package of practices in the mentioned sectors for improving yield and facilitating the process of doubling farm income. The college firmly believes that the aim of producing right kind of human resources in the discipline of fisheries and aquaculture can be fulfilled only through the management and development of related resources with a view to produce more fish and provide nutritional security to the people of N.E. In this direction also, the college is religiously making sincere efforts and a series of on and off campus outreach programmes are being regularly organized by it for the benefit of fish farmers, unemployed youth, and extension functionaries as well.
Finally, I greet all the stakeholders of the sector with an appeal to provide constant and unhesitant feedback so that we can improve our efforts to increase fish production in the region.
