ABOUT THE DIRECTORATE OF RESEARCH, CAU, IMPHAL

Although the Central Agricultural University (CAU) was established in the year 1993 under the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992 of the Parliament (Act No. 40 of 1992), the University research initiated only after the appointment of Director of Research, CAU Imphalw.e.f. 5.3.2001.

University research aims at developing technologies which can bring about a far reaching impact on productivity, production and profitability of crops, animals and fishes through sustainable and eco-friendly scientific approaches for socio-economic upliftment of the people of NEH Region. The University research is focused on the location specific and problem solving approaches. The research components of the university included basic, strategic, applied and adaptive researches on agriculture, horticulture, animal sciences, fisheries, agricultural engineering, post-harvest technology, home science, etc.

a) CAU Research administration and linkages

In order to facilitate research administration and linkages between researchers and research managers in the university, a time tested research management and linkage system was developed in the university.

A. Agriculture
Crop Improvement
1.Assessment, exploration, conservation and utilization of regional agro-bio-resources.
2.Understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying important traits like yield, biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, fertilizer use efficiency, etc. for crop improvement.
3.Production of quality seeds for location Specific agro systems.
Crop Protection
1.Documentation of major insect pests, nematodes and diseases.
2.Integrated management of diseases, insect pests and nematodes under different cropping systems.
3.Documentation of edible fungi and economically important insects.
Natural Resources Management
1.Acid soil management
2.Soil & Land resource inventory and carbon sequestration
3.Integrated farming systems and organic farming
4.Beneficial microbes in agriculture
